|Member Spotlight – Kevin Trosine, DTM
Kevin has been a member of Oviedo Toastmasters for 15 years. His journey to becoming a Toastmaster was inspired by Dr Wayne Dyer, successful author and recipient of the prestigious Toastmasters “The Golden Gavel” award. Kevin was listening to one of Dr. Dyer’s inspirational audio books, when the author suggested the Toastmasters program as a way for people to build their confidence and self esteem. Coincidentally, this was also a pivotal point for Kevin in his career. Kevin was challenged by his manager to present technical solutions to large groups of coworkers. This was something that was new to him.
Kevin’s journey then lead him to his first Toastmasters meeting. Quickly he saw the value our the program and how it could impact people’s lives. He leveraged the Toastmasters program to enhance his speaking and leadership skills. “It was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made,” Kevin said.
Often times people have asked Kevin, “why do you still come to Toastmasters after 15 years, doesn’t it get boring?” Kevin’s response is that “he is happy to say that he continues to learn something new at every single meeting. All of our members bring a unique perspective to the club. They each have impressive skills and insights that we can all learn from. I have met so many great people at Toastmasters meetings and conferences. Without exception, everyone has offered support and encouragement every step of the way.”
Kevin has the following advice for members and guests: “I encourage all of you to step out of your comfort zone. All of us start off with butterflies in our stomachs and anxiety in our thoughts. By stretching your boundaries, you will grow in ways that will surprise you. Become an officer, take an evaluator role and you’ll quickly uncover the magic of our program. And as an added bonus, you’re likely to meet people that might just become friends for life.”
Each month Spotlight will feature one member of Oviedo Toastmasters. If you would like to be featured in Spotlight, contact Dave Shine, VPPR.
